The PS3 is the first example of a first generation media player for any of the formats I can think of that will stand the test of time. I am certain I will continue to use mine until it breaks, it works so well. Just now with the Panasonic DMP-BD55 and Sony BDP-S550 are we seeing more complete Blu-ray players, but even those players don't do all of the things in addition to Blu-ray that the PS3 does. Without the PS3 being so good so early, Blu-ray wouldn't have gotten rolling. But boy did Sony take it on the chin to get this player in so many households, it seems like a great player for the price because it can't be built for the price. Sony is probably glad that going forward the player won't be such a popular choice for just Blu-ray use, people are now more likely to pick up one of the new standalone players for exclusive Blu-ray use and people buying the PS3 are likely also interested in gaming which is more lucrative and the loss on hardware can be recouped on games and accessories which offer better margins.

I sure like the PS3, so I purchased two of them, an early 80GB and recent 40GB and both have been great. Some of the other Blu-ray hardware I own has been very good, but any time I have a problem with a disc, I know I can load it quickly and it will play in a PS3. I have never returned a disc that couldn't be played in my Samsung players because the first thing I do is try it in the PS3 and it loads and plays properly.

Now if they could just fix that problem with the Blu-Ray Live, I'd be happy.
