They have release season 1 in 4k, so at this point I'll assume they are going to re-release the rest in 4k. I'll wait for the box set.

Well I'm now glad I got rid of the BDs I had several years ago because this season has ruined the whole series for me. It's utter and complete dogshit.

I agree. I may have to sell my blu rays. Talk about wasting a great show.

What a disgrace this season has been

Here is what I would predict. They've released Season 1 in 4K, will release Season 8 in 4K. They will likely then release 2 (or 3) at a time in 4K on 2 - 7, then do a gotta have it box set afterwards.
Although, the box set they have planned for BD has artwork by the very talented Robert Ball, it's not shouting out at me as "gotta have it."
Imagine a box set with a Neca type dragon figure. Sort of like the Jurassic Park set that came out years ago.

Default Game of Thrones 4K

Thank you for your response. I guess I do not understand the need to release old obsolete formats before the current 4K standard.

Blu-ray, DVD, VHS & BetaMax are out of date so why bother.

I don't know of anyone who does not have multiple 4K players & monitors at their disposal.

Is there really a need for blu-ray?

I don't have a 4KTV, a 4K player, or a 4K sound system. I don't have the money to just drop on a new TV whenever a new thing comes out these days. I'm still using my PS3 as my standard Blu-Ray player. I live in the real world and it's either buy groceries or buy a TV just for the sake of having a new TV despite the one I currently have still working just fine.

What world do you live in where you think everyone can just buy 4K everything at the drop of a hat?

In the USA, you're lucky if you ask if there is a need for DVD. In Japan they stopped making them a couple years ago. In the USA though, they're still pretty strong, despite the fact that so many households have HDTVs. If I had to guess, saturation is 80% or greater, so why play a low-rez signal on your hi-rez TV? Blu-ray players can be had for $40 or so nowadays so why are we still selling DVDs here? We should be at a 4K + 2K (Regular HD) combo pack stage.

Anyway, off topic. Back to our regular programming.
