Glad I never pulled the trigger on the Lucy from Hong Kong that has Atmos!

Not super thrilled about too many of those initial titles (Jason Bourne looks like it'll be pretty good, and I've already got Lucy on Blu) but glad to see Universal coming on-board.

Hey SONY I'm talking to you!!! See this list? It's stuff people may actually want to buy. Learn a lesson from it.

Most of those movies haven't even been released (though Winter's War does open tomorrow night) so it's no surprise they're getting the 4K treatment. As for the other 3, I only see 1 movie that might interest me but not that much. It's really a list that's no better than Sony's initial releases.

Regardless, at least both Sony and Universal are releasing on 4K. Where is Disney/Pixar/Marvel/Lucasfilm? Tomorrowland is 4K and HDR graded already so it would be simple for them to release it (yes, it didn't do well theatrically but it might be an easy way to recoup some cash from desperate 4K early adopters). The live action Jungle Book would probably look amazing in 4K/HDR.

Jason Bourne coming out though is a good sign that they'll release the original Bourne movies as well.

Now that Universal is releasing 4k discs hopefully they can release other titles. I am thinking the 2013 restored version of Jurassic Park in 2D 4k and maybe with Dolby Atmos although the revised 7.1 sound by Gary Rydstrom would be just fine. Knowing the 2013 disc has colors closer to the orginal print makes me excited about seeing that in a 2D disc.

One can expect a million incantations of Back to the Future and Jurassic Park eventually. But those two franchises seldom ever spawn early on, usually always some licensing negotiation issues.

1. UHD BD is mainly a new release format that will mainly utilize HDR. To showcase HDR and make a good first impression, of course they are going to use newer launch titles. Even if it wasn't for the HDR, the initial movies will be the ones will newer and better masters than older and grainier ones.

2. How many years was it before those movies were released on BD?
