Default Panasonic UB900 beats the Oppo UDP-203 in head to head testing

Interesting test between the two players. Lack of DV capability aside, the Panasonic wins the recommended UHD player status from HDTV Test:

Looks like I will be keeping my UB900 for a while yet...
    TV - LG 65G6v OLED
    Panasonic UB900 UHD, Pioneer BDP-LX88 (Region B), and Oppo BDP-95 (multi-region)
    Onkyo DV-HD805, Toshiba XE1
    Receiver - Pioneer SC-LX90/SC-09TX Susano
    Sub - B&W ASW750
    Surround - 3 x B&W DM-601 S3
    Centre - JBL EC35
    Floorstanding - 2 x JBL ES100

I feel as though Oppo missed the boat on UHD as of yet but they will eventually get there.
Does the Panasonic support region-mods for Blu Rays and/or user created media?

There is a software multi region fix and you have the Stop Button trick too which has been the norm for Panasonic players.

Well 4K discs are region-free so that helps.
FWIW this is the one lone voice out there saying the Panny has "won" someone tests, the majority of the comparisons have said that both are very good players with the Panny being more consumer friendly and the Oppo being more "enthusiast friendly" I was happy to find out the external RS232 BD region free mod from the 103 fit the 203 and got me region-free BDs in addition to the 4K and DVD region-free options.

If you reread my post you see I am asking about Blu Rays, not UHD. Of course you knew that I know that UHDs are not region coded.

I would love my region unlocking kit that I installed in my 103 would work on the 203. I have a bunch of region locked blu rays.
I love my 103 because it also plays my SACDs.

Have read in places online that the kit does work on the 203.

I know the external kits work without issue, but the OPPO 203 thread over at AVSForum has suggested many internal kits may work but I used external since I didn't have a previous OPPO and this kit was $69.

Most of those comparisons were before the Panasonic had its firmware update which allowed 10 bit playback. I have noticed the strong PQ improvement on mine since that update. 4K discs look even better than before. For a 'lone voice' Vincent Teogh is a respected calibrator and he has compared both players with their most recent updates. As he says further updates could change this situation again though.

I can confirm that the internal region-free mod kits for the 103 work in the 203. Literally one plug into the motherboard and you're good to go. The hardest part is getting the case apart!

    Pioneer Elite SC-95
    UltraHD Blu-Rays: 53
