My favorite remake ever, and if I'm not mistaken, the only one to take place in the past when the original didn't. I have yet to see the extended version, have the HD-DVD, but will pick this up some day. Not enough money even at the sale price now what with First Contact, Star Trek, Wizard of OZ Ultimate set.

I would definitely get it at this price if I didn't already have it.

Hmmmm, should I get it? Everytime I watch it I think, "I wish it was 40 minutes shorter"

I know each of the three acts is aprox an hour each, so I wish I could trim it.

It's a worthy remake though. I just dont want to worship it because it was by Peter Jackson. I feel people think they HAVE TO like it "just because" it was by the great Peter Jackson.

Lets say Fred Durst directed this King Kong. Would you still love it?

the HD DVD version was my very FIRST hi-def MEDIA DISC! i remembered it was packaged w/XBox external USB HD DVD player. i did what so many HTPC enthusiasts had done, purchased it for my PC! what a pleasure it was to watch 1080p MOVIES w/very high quality PQ and audio! i no longer have it (sold it after the format died), but the Blu-Ray has:
-Lossless audio
-Extended Scenes that are WORTH IT, Peter Jackson is THE EE man w/both LOTR and KK extended he has really done us right =). not only are the content itself worth it and enrich the story, the a/v qualities of the extended scenes are downright awesome =), especially KK.

the only quibble is that the bonus/extras are NOT carried over from the SD DVD 3 disc package ='(. so if u have that, keep it still. i have a feeling we're in for many a double dips (like the recent Harry Potter Ultimate Editions).

PS psickmusic, we really bought it for the dino scenes and the creepy crawler scenes, lol. it is a long movie but i imagine most of the HT-freaks buy it to demo the action-scenes =P

Yes, it's a great showcase piece, no doubt. Something to have running in the background when guests come over.
