Default Best Buy's $89 Insignia player - multi region BD & DVD

Best Buy has in store special pricing of $89 for their Insignia NS-WBRDVD2 Blu-ray player (price is higher on their website, $89 is in store only).

It can easily change region coding with the remote - key in 9113 and a secret menu pops up that allows you to set it to whatever BD region and DVD region you want. No more excuses for being locked out of great BDs just because of region coding.

It has built in WiFi & Netflix, Pandora & CinemaNow streaming services.

any reviews? does it play pal sd content? Cause the sherwood goes for about $60 more and I'd rather spend that to make sure it does everything.

Yes, without PAL output you've only solved half of the problem.

I just got back from a Best Buy in SW Virginia and the price is now back up to $129. Apparently this was a weekend only deal. Could be YMMV, so maybe we can get some more feedback from other successful or unsuccessful outcomes.

HOWEVER, the BB I went to DID have the NS-BRDVD4 model for $85. Anyone know if this model has region free capability? (Did a search and came up empty.)

Sorry, I wasn't sure how long the sale lasted. But I did have better luck with my search - guy in Canada says his NS-BRDVD4 does the same thing, keying in 9113 on the remote brings up the region coding menu. As far as I can tell, the only difference between the NS-BRDVD4 & NS-BRDVD2 is that the BRDVD2 has wireless & wired and BRDVD4 only has wired.

I highly doubt either can convert PAL to NTSC, but I would think it would output PAL. I downloaded the manual PDF and it says its output is NTSC, but so does the manual for my LG BH200 and it outputs PAL and 1080i50 just fine, which my projector has no problem with. They make these chipset designs to work anywhere around the would, and just make the manuals & menus specific to North America or Europe/AUS/NZ.

No need for the sorries , I actually forgot to thank you for the find. THANKS!

I noticed that post as well and have been trying to find out more info on the WBRDVD4 and its region free capabilities.

Correct me if I'm wrong but from what I've read the WBRDVD4-CA (Canada) can be remote hacked, but the WBRDVD4 (US) can't? Can anyone actually confirm this?

Yeah...curious is the US model can be region hacked or only the Canadian. Would gladly pick one of these up.

Alright, so after my Sherwood-5004 shat the bed I returned it to Amazon and needed another back-up region free player. I picked up the NS-2BRDVD2 and NS-2BRDVD4 thanks to this thread and can confirm that they are BOTH region free (as Cochise stated previously). This means that all Insignia NS-2BRDVD Blu-ray players (NS-2BRDVD, 2, 3, 4) are region free once you use the 9-1-1-3 home setup remote hack.

I'm pleasantly surprised with Insignia and the menus are almost exactly the same as the Sherwood, which is the clone of the Momitsu. These are back on sale starting at $75 so there's no more room for "region crying."
