Default LG BD53 @ Fry's = $57 (in-store TODAY only) (EXPIRED)

That's the best price I've seen for any player yet this season, especially one as feature-packed as this (BD-Live, USB, media file playback, Youtube, Accucheck and Picasa widgets). These may no longer be in stock, so this could be a fruitless post...but I posted as soon as I could.

I picked one of these up today with the Rocky Coll., Man With No Name Tril. and 2 2TB Seagate Ext HDDs. The 2 movie sets will be gifts as I already have both and the rest for me.

Anyway read the BD530 was fast loading, pretty good DVD quality upscaling (don't use this feature as I only own BDs), bitstream all audio, BD-Live enabled (needs 1GB USB) and does .mkvs et al.

What I read it doesn't have is Netflix or any other streaming movie service and is not DNLA capable. It is also very light (hence the price), supposedly loud at loading and there was some confusion about internal decoding.

I will run it through it's paces shortly. I figured for $57 I might have a nice little player to replace my slow Pioneer Elite BDP-05. it would be even nicer if somewhere down the line LG would add Netflix but since I currently don't use it it isn't a deal breaker for me. I figured I'd buy it and if i don't like it I could return it instead of finding out it's a real good player and I had passed on it.

Hopefully it stands up to my 05 picture quality.

After my experience with an LG Blu-ray player that I bought last holiday season, I would never buy an LG product (let alone a BD player) again, no matter the price.

Same can be said for Samsung, but you can't judge their entire product line on one dud. Generally speaking, I try to avoid both Korean catastrophes (LG and Samsung), but that doesn't leave much remaining, does it? ;-)

Which model was that? I've been very happy with LG - I've had a BH200 for quite awhile and never had a single glitch, but I do have it set to region B and pretty much use it for import BDs & DVDs, not HD DVDs. And I've had a BD390 for almost a year and it's been perfect as well.

Don't remember. I bought it in November. Just over three months later (when the first part of the warranty had expired), the machine stopped playing standard DVDs. I was quoted by LG that it would cost about 100 bucks to fix (fuck that). A couple of months after that, it would no longer play Blu-rays either.

When I went back to the product page on Amazon (where I had initially purchased it), I found several identical horror stories in the reviews section.

Never again.

Of course I can.

It may be wrong of me to do so, but that's how it goes. I will never buy an LG product again.

Just because you say it doesn't make it valid. I owned the LG BH200 for approximately 2 years...guess what, no failures. My experience cancels out yours, etc.

Did you read my entire response or just the first four words?
