If you like the idea of having an ES Series Blu-ray Player but not the $700 price tag, Sony Style has a great offer.

Save a massive $420 on the Sony BDP-S1000ES ES Series Blu-ray Disc Player, now only $279.99.

Use coupon code SONYBDPS1000 at checkout for the discount.

This offer is valid until May 8th.

That is a great deal but the same player is $250 shipped from Vanns Electronics. With a 5-year warranty, I can't imagine a better deal on a Blu-ray player without 3D and without Netflix.

If I remember correctly all ES products have a 5 year warranty.

What is it about streaming and 3D that precludes existing high end players from being firmware updated to handle it. Are there hardware requirements in addition to firmware? This player would be a terrific purchase if it could be firmware updated for new features.

I take it you are saying 3LD is hardware based or has a required hardware component/chip/board based process + firmware software.
How about streaming? If a player is profile 2 with internet available, what other hardware is needed there?

I don't believe the hardware supports 3D in this case which is why this player is being closed out at this price. With a 5-year warranty and first rate Blu-ray and DVD performance, if 3D and streaming are of no interest this is a great player.
