Sylvania NB530SLX Blu-ray Disc Player (Black) $59.99

Saw that Amazon has the Sylvania NB530SLX Blu-ray Disc Player (Black) for $59.99.

This is the best price I have ever seen for a new Blu-Ray player.

can anyone comment on this player (as a bedroom player).

thanks

Just ordered one for the family room. The Amazon reviews are pretty decent. Decodes all HD audio codecs (doesn't do DTS Master Audio but supports DTS HD.) If you don't need BD-Live and looking for a entry-level player this is a heck of a deal.

It sucks because you can only update through cds burned from a computer.

Uh, no. Firmware updates via CD have been a standard method for some time now. This is also clearly sold as a Profile 1.1 player. Do not expect an ethernet port, or even advance features, at this price point. Reading the reviews, the common thread is the s-lo-w loading times. If that's not a deal breaker for you, good time to buy. I'm tempted to get one for my folks at this price.

It should be a decent enough Funai Clone player, probably identical to the Wal-mart magnavoxs, decent little profile 1.1 player. worth the money but if you wait for a sale you might get a LG or better player for a little more.

As it is for a spare room this one with no bd live should be fine.

Same player at WM is going for $179 : http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...ct_id=11088888

Yeah, my folks just need the basics (fancy=complex). Plus, as a spare/family room player, you won't be out a lot of $$ if something goes wrong with it. Agree with the Doctor. The reason I might simply wait is the fact that prices will continue to come down along with the occasional sales, given the advent of new HD 3D players.

Wow! For that price this is a no brainer. Thanks for posting this. It'll be going in my bed room. :)

How often do you need to update the firmware? I have the Magnavox version a while back from WM for $98. It is a good value at $60. While there was one firmware update available since I brought it, I don't really need to update as I have not encountered a single BD it would not play.

I bit. This will be a stop-gap measure for the living room until I can afford to get my PS3 1st gen fixed.
