Default Look for a A/V receiver (multi source/multi zone)

Hi,

i'm looking to buy a receiver for my home theater setup. I'm looking for a receiver that has the multi-zone/multi-source feature since I want to put music in my kitchen while having 5.1 surround in the living room. I am not looking for 7.1 because my couch is flat against the wall.

I will hook up a ps3 and a Texas Instrument HD box (cable tv). I don't want to use hdmi pass through and to have to fit new audio optical cables.

By the way since i'm using a PS3 for BR player, I don't need the receiver to decode True HD sound right???? The ps3 should do it...

I was looking at the Onkyo TXSR606 and the Denon AVR-789. I know both of these boxes have this multi room feature. Can you suggest any other?

Thanks a lot for your suggestions !

dave

I'm in the same situation you are with my couch against the wall. I have the Yamaha RX-V463, it does what your wanting, but mine has an issue with clipping or crushing the blacks.

I'm also looking at the Denon 789, but the cheap side of me is wanting the Pioneer VSX-918V-K. It's about half the price and it does everything I want it to. I've searched several times though and I can't tell if it's HDMI 1.3a or not.

I just look at it, seems fin, it has 2 hdmi inputs (not pass through) but it doesn't decode anything else than prologic2.

The problem for me is that is doesn't have that multiroom/multisource feature.

What's your budget? Lots of good Marantz options at accessories4less, both new and refurb (especially since you just need PCM over HDMI, not lossless decoding).

The Onkyo 574 and 575 do what you're looking for. I paid $160 shipped for a new 574 on ebay.

I'm not 100% positive but I think the Sony 720 would also do what you're wanting. Someone else can verify if it is capable of Zone B.
