Default Blu ray problem or TV problem?

Hey everyone....I recently got a Samsung A32A330 32" 720P TV, a Rogers HD Cable Box and a Sharp Aquos BDHP21U Blu ray player.

The HD cable and the blu ray movies look amazing, the colours are rich and there is no slowdown or synch problems.

However I am having one major annoying problem. Certain things on screen flicker or shine. It's really hard to explain, but a few examples include:

-In House of 1000 corpses, a guy is wearing a black and white stripped shirt and the shirt flickers a lot

-In The Dark Knight a lot of the imax panning shots of the city, the sides of the buildings flicker

-When watching Spiderman 3, there is a scene where a guy holds up a basketball, and the lines on the basketball shimmer or flicker

-When watching an HD version of UFC Unleashed, the cage itself flickers a lot

I have searched this quite a bit, and someone mentioned something about an "Auto Contrast" setting in my TV being the problem? I looked through both the user menu and even the service menu and couldn't really locate anything that resembles this.

Someone also suggested turning ON movie or film mode, and turning off image filtering, which I did.

I also tried 720P and 1080i modes, both do the same thing.

Has anyone experienced this? Is there a solution?

Thank you all for the help.

I had similar problem on my old 32" CRT (HD-Ready 768 res) when I added a blu-ray player to system. Yes, blu-ray movies were fantastic, but screen flicker now and again.

Solution was to set blu-ray player output to 720p, rather than the Auto 1080i. The latter caused the flickering due to downscaling on the TV end. Picture went from lovely to even more lovely!!

Easy to test using the copyright warnings and similar static screens at DVD start (thin lines and tiny print).

Ya I tried setting the blu ray player to 720p.....still did it unfortunately.

I don't think its the disc itself, since it happened A LOT in Dark Knight, and other posters said they didn't have these problems.

If my TV is a 720P TV, should I be setting my cable box and Blu ray player and 360 to 720P? I know they always say run them at your native resolution, but my TV displays both 720p and 1080i, so really i'm not too sure.

May want to return the Sharp BD player as I've HEARD they are no good. Try matching your player with a Samsung BD-P1500 or 2500/2550.

If you can swing it the Sammy BD-P2550 would be a good way to go... You get Reon upscaling and netflix, nice bonuses.

Well the player is working well. It plays all movies well so this is the only problem I am having. Do you think this could really be a problem with the player?

Also, I don't think this particular problem is the blu ray player, because the same thing happens while watching HDTV.

well just throwing a suggestion out there, but did you try calibrating your display using DVE on bluray? It's quite possible your TV is so far out of what should be proper spec that you're getting these artifacts.

Further investiagtion shows that if I turn sharpness alllll the way down, the problem is not as bad, and if i turn it right up, its MUCH worse....so hopefully that gives you a better idea of what the problem is like....its like everything is TOO sharp. However, if I turn sharpness all the way down, it only SOMEWHAT fixes the problem, and then of course my picture quality is very degraded.

Is there some type of sharpness setting or something in the service menu that maybe could help me?
