Default Receivers decoding Dolby Digital/DTS vs receivers decoding Dolby TrueHD/DTS HD

I have a Pioneer Receiver with built-in Dolby Digital and DTS decoders. When I hooked up my Blu-Ray player for the first time I noticed an audible difference in the sound quality produced and that was only using the front three speakers! The system works beautifully but I am wondering, do I need to upgrade to a receiver capable of decoding the new HD Sound formats and if so, how much an impact will it actually have versus what I already am getting? I'm moving into a new place at the end of the year and want to know if I should spring for a newer HD receiver to complete my system. Any help us appreciated!

There is some improvement. It's similar to the difference between an MP3 and a CD, where the CD is lossless like TrueHD and HDMA, and the MP3 is compressed.

Another important factor to take into consideration is what your speakers are like. The better your speakers, the more apparent the differences in these formats will be.

also the type and recording quality of the soundtrack. If the soundtrack is complex and/or consists of orchestral music, you will be always be able to hear the improvement. However, in many cases, once you've got immersed into the movie, a lot of people tend to not to be able to tell the improvement.
