    My internal cost me $90.

i think the reason these things have not taken off is price-fixing. Four years after the technology came out, and we have hardly seen a fall in prices. Granted, discs are SOMEWHAT cheaper, I mean, they have gone from $25 a disc till where I can pick up a spindle of 15 on a GREAT sale for around $45-$50 (so about $3 a disc), but normally, these discs do run $5-$15 a piece, depending on brand, and that's for single layer. Right now, its cheaper to go out and pick up a 1TB harddrive for $60 and use that for for backup.

The costs of discs need to desperately come down in price, as do the price of burners.

This is the reason I haven't bothered investing in a Blu Ray burner. I'm operating only with a laptop right now, and Apple doesn't even support playback yet. It's too cheap to buy DVDs and/or Hard Drives in comparison.

I'm getting single-layer for about $1 a disc. $1 for 25GB with hard-coating is pretty frackin reasonable IMO.

If you want BD support, you should look beyond Apple at this juncture (their cult-like following and price-gouging are reason enough to ditch them for greener pastures).

Can you share who your supplier is? They would get my business! I was thinking $3 a disc was a steal!

Take a look at Newegg.com, you can get a 25 pack for single layer 25GB for around $25.

Yup. And fleaBay has Mits/Verb dual-layer discs for about $5 a piece, with FREE shipping. The media is CHEAP as far as I'm concerned.

There's ways around it with 3rd party programs, but playback is still the issue. The rest of the post is subjective and inconsequential.

Again, those playback issues are a self-imposed limitation (since you refuse to buy anything other than Apple computing products). Steve Jobs presence on the BDA has been merely for undermining optical disc, or else there would be an in-house solution for BD playback by now.

And the "subjective and inconsequential" part may be true to a degree, but their pricing structure obviously relies on hype when similarly performing open PC equipment can be had for hundreds less (fact). If you don't see the evidence of the cult of Apple, well, there's nothing I can say that will open your eyes to it.
