They may be discontinued but I would add the Polk monitor series to the list... I got my fronts for $99 each (monitor 50's) and the center (CS1) for $79... Best money I ever spent, the upgrade was simply astounding.

606 is an excellent deal at that price. Jump on it. The 706 is not worth the $180 more, to me.

I was looking for the good Bookshelf solution, but when you go shopping for all the pieces you end up really complicating things. But, it is worth it. I may add a "Bookshelf Options" to the speakers section.

This is an excellent guide, I was just answering a couple PM's from someone on this very topic today. We chose some of the same stuff, interesting to see. I was looking myself to see what I could come up with for a subwoofer, and found your guide helpful too.

Cheers!

Updated this one slightly with The Speaker Company options. Nice find.

Does anybody have reviews or comparisons of the Speaker Company packages and Energy Take Classic? Thought I was going to go with Polk, but seriously researching these two speaker packages. Heard bad things about Fluance's center speaker.

comixguru, I want to thank you for putting this together. Audio is easily the most confusing part of setting up a HT for me.

I'd like to get a little clarification on some points for anyone out there who would be so kind to answer them. I apologize in advance for being completely in the dark on this subject matter. I have searched this site trying to get clarification on these issues but the more I read the more confused I seem to get.

OK, I am going to be basically starting from scratch on my HT with my tax return. I have already picked out my TV and plan on getting a PS3. My original plan was to use the PS3 as my BD player and also take advantage of its up-scaling capabilities for regular DVDs. After reading some threads here, it seems like that may not be the best option for me as people are saying that the up-scaling is not the best on the PS3.

My question is, can I go with the Sony STR-DG820 for example that is decoding and use my PS3 with it as a BD player until I buy a standalone BD player in the future?
