Default Walmart to add DVD fixtures keep aisles clean, add product

Also, the fixtures are expected to be permanent and not made of corrugate material.

“The local managers are saying that they’ve reduced SKU count and what can be done about it?” said another studio source regarding Walmart outlets that have already rolled out the clear aisle program. “If they move in another fixture, they can increase their SKU number. Their sales don’t have to decline.”

Overall, studios seem to be staying upbeat about Walmart’s removal of corrugate, which had been a long-standing promotional tool for new releases. Studio research has concluded there will be minimal impact on disc sales if Walmart considers adding more shelf space.

“I’m not worried about clear aisles,” explained a studio source. “The studio category managers looked at what clean aisles would cost them. And then they asked how do we not have this effect? And Walmart will do things to make up for” lost space.

In July, Walmart confirmed its intention to make its aisles look more spacious and inviting to customers. But a spokeswoman declined to comment on whether the chain is making any changes to its clean aisle plans.
