Post No BluRay at Disney World

Hello,

I went to Disney World this past weekend with my wife and sone and noticed something very odd while I was in one of the gift shops. There were no Blu Ray disks at the POTC section. They had tons of DVD's, but not one Blu Ray Disk of POTC. I just thought it was odd because if you have ever been to Disney World, it is nothing but a HUGE marketing machine. They sell everything that you can imagine at that park and triple what the outside world pays. (Which I imagine it has to be just by looking at how large the place is and how clean and detailed the park is.)

Now the question I ask is, why?

Does Universal Studios sell HD DVD movies at their gift shops???

Who in their right mind would buy Blu-Ray movies at the Disney World gift shops? What would they cost? $39.99, $49.99, etc?

if they sell DVD why won't they want to sell blu-ray movies.
they should it is big marketplace. if I was to advertise new Disney blu-ray movies, Disney world would be the one.

Universal Studios doesn't sell HD DVDs, but they did have advertisements for it when i was there, including a movie playing on an HD-A2. It's nice they promote it, but with no place to purchase a player, nor movies it lacks it's full potential.

First of all, it's June. June in Orlando is HOT as hell and humid as can be. I was in a gift shop to cool off. While I was looking at the vast sea of stuff, I noticed a POTC section. They had a wall filled with POTC in DVD and other Disc related items, such as games, but not one BD. No sign for BD or anything. I would think that if they had so many DVD's on the shelves and they were behind Blu Ray as much as they say they were, they would at least have some available, but all that they had was DVD. That's all I am saying...

Let's apply some commonsense:
- Shelf space in these gift shops is critical. They make a ton of money off concessions, candy, souvenirs, etc. There are over 100 million DVD players in North America alone. There are about 1.5 million BD capable players in NA. There just is not enough demand right now.
- Most of the movies released by Disney up to this point are more adult oriented than kid oriented. I see your point with POTC 1+2, but they have not released any of the Pixar or animated classics yet.
- Most people vacationing at Disney have kids. Most kids nowadays have either a portalable DVD player, or a DVD player in their minivan. There are no protable BD players or BD players in cars (unless you pimp your ride and add a PS3).

There just is not the demand. Yet. I am sure Disney will start selling BD movies in the next 2-3 years as demand increases, portable BD players start popping up, and movie costs drop.

This topic has no real signifigance. Disney World is a cash cow, but they aren't necessarily connected with Disney Blu-ray discs, but do expect them within 2-3 years at the latest imo.
