Thumbs up Onkyo DV-HD805 HD DVD Player

http://formatwarcentral.com/index.ph...hd-dvd-player/

Onkyo has been a member of the HD DVD Promotion Group since before the formats launch last April. They are now trickling out details on their upcoming DV-HD805 HD DVD player. The unit is based on Toshiba’s flagship player the HD-XA2. We expect the player to have HDMI 1.3 as well as DTS-HD Master Audio support (no word on decoding in player).

This will hurt Toshi sales, I wonder if Toshi cares?

That's great, so now you can enjoy the plethora of DTS-HD MA encoded HD DVDs in their full lossless audio glory...

Onkyo will have to sell this for at $1000 at the very least to turn a profit, whereas Toshi doesn't care about making a profit from the players. Let's see how long Onkyo stays in the HD DVD hardware game.

What's the difference between this and Sony undercutting the other BR manufacturers with the PS3?

By your logic shouldn't Pioneer and Samsung have bowed out of the BR player game because the PS3 (20gb) undercut their price of $1000?

You're assuming they're actually building it. I would think this is a made in china relabeled toshi item.

The guts might be the a20, maybe Onkyo added some nice extras (menu options?).

I will be priced between 399 and 499 at the most.

Where have I heard this before? Oh yes, Sony selling the PS3 at a massive loss to try and ram blu-ray down gamer's throats. Too bad for Sony most gamers seem more interested in the vastly more affordable and innovative Wii.

I think toshiba would not care to much since they are in dier need of any support. They dont care since they are lossing money on the player sold. Toshi is not in the war to sell hd-dvd player they are in to win the war.

Interesting to see another company attempt re-badging. I wonder of Onkyo's superior brand image will fair better than RCA's.

wow a massive loss goes the
fan boys cry but blu-ray probably cost way less then $100 and that it allow sony to sell the PS3 at more of a loss. Ps3 come with wireless +$80 for the 360
Your comment does not have that much logic to it except that the Wii is selling like hot cakes but for the 360 core to cost $50 bucks more is that not funny?
