Default Several recent releases with sub-par audio

How long are you blu-boys just going to keep buying this crap???

Basic Instinct 3 star
Cruel Intentions 3
Norbit 3 (3 1/2 for HD DVD)
Freedom Writers 3 1/2 (4 for HD DVD)
M:I-2 3 1/2 (4 for HD DVD)

I could go on, but I think I've made the point...

To be fair Citrix, that could be due more to the source material of certain exclusives like Basic Instinct and Cruel Intentions. The other titles you mention are from Paramount, which has a habit of giving a Dolby Digital Plus mix to the HD DVD release and screwing over the BD version with just a mere Dolby 5.1. Overall, I've found BD exclusives to be very satisfying as they make a superb effort at including lossless mixes.

Oh, I'm not saying it a fault of the format, I'm thinking its more of the mentality of the studios.."Here's a disc..buy it" I mean really, we plunk down $$$ of they players, and the best they can do is release this garbage?

"The other titles you mention are from Paramount, which has a habit of giving a Dolby Digital Plus mix to the HD DVD release and screwing over the BD version with just a mere Dolby 5.1" - Thats my point! ! ! and anyone who buys the BD version with only dolby 5.1 is only encouraging them to release more sub-par titles

Do you REALLY want a Dolby TrueHD/DTS HD Master Audio or PCM treatment of movies like Norbit... or Cruel Intentions, or Freedom Writers?

I can live just fine with a DD+ or Dolby Digital 640kpbs treatment for those movies... Eddie Murphy's laugh is annoying even in stereo.

M:I 2 though...

I personally have gotten to that point. Namely, choosing not to purchase titles that I feel could have benefitted from a lossless mix (especially in the case of Flags of Our Fathers). To be honest though, I'm typically more frustrated with Universal who has really yet to include lossless codecs on the vast majority of their discs --especially when compared with Blu Ray's lossless PCM mixes.

Hey Citrix guy,

Here are some more recent releases with rotten audio:

Midnight Run HD DVD (3 stars)
The River HD DVD(3 stars)

Who is buying this crap?

Incidentally, Cruel Intentions has PCM 5.1 audio. If it got 3 stars, it wasn't down to poor encoding. Also, you lambast Basic Instinct but it has 1.5mbs DTS HD audio, the same bitrate as the DD+ of HD DVDs of Norbit, Freedom Writers and M:I 2.

Remind me again, which format has the most lossless soundtracks available?

A point based on a few titles....

How about looking at the whole enchilada.

Not only is the SQ of Blu-ray clearly superior, but now throughout all five sites Blu-ray has the lead in PQ as well.

How long are you HD DVD fanboys gonna put up with an inferior format?

It seems to me Universal is releasing some of these titles when they should delay them to amp up the picture or in the case of "Lost In Translation" it sounds like it should be two discs or double sided.

As always, most people (including you) have missed the point. Why are we putting up with this crap?

there copuld be 5 000 000 titles with lossless tracks, but if the studio puts zero effort into building a decent release....
