Default Will Microsoft Announce A BD Add-On @ CES 2009?

Another question that is lingering in peoples minds.

And another holdout company who has not joined the BDA.

I said no, and if you had included Apple I would still have said no.

Nope. They will push the Netflix angle for the next 3 years or so until they launch their next console. IF BD continues to grow, which I think is likely given the general advertising blitz for the format this holliday season, then they will use BD for their next console.

yup next generation, it will be a core component, but I think it's too small of a market for xbox to add it definitively right now. Perhaps next year when drive prices go down to about 50-75 a piece, they might market one then. If they want their xbox brand to be the center piece of home entertainment, it's going to need a blu-ray player to be offer the all around experience.

cant see the xbox2 needing one, the box three better have some large storage device unless they want to compete with the wii2

as to apple, its more than likely (but probably not as ces) seeing as they said they we're dealing with blu ray licensing issues (trying to get the cost down) for possible inclusion with SL

Yeah the only reason for xbox360 to get the addon now, is if microsoft believes that BD needs to be integrated to their media center showpiece of today, which I don't think needs to happen for another 1-2 years. They _might_ put one out for Q42009 if sales for BD remain high.

It makes more sense for MS to use a derivative of the HD DVD technology for it's next generation system with XDE enhancements. BluRay will still not have enough marketshare come XBox720.

Good thinking - and, when you tout this new unit as a full entertainment unit, you will do this by letting the consumer know that if they want to watch movies - they can only buy old movies based on a dead format?

they still have to get a SA blu ray player on top of it?

HD DVD tech? The only thing that would give MS would be antipirating ability. That being said if DVD lines that have been upgraded to HD DVD can be utilized still, sounds like a decent option.

However, if MS' goal is to create the ultimate home entertainment center piece, it needs to have BD. From what I understand, that is/was their goal. PS3 is also trying to be that however, they made one HUGE bone head mistake, no IR control (bonehead sony).
