Default There may indeed be something behind the WB "Do or die for Blu-ray" statement...

Looking at the data here, Blu-ray's performance is absolutely pathetic. No wonder WB is pissed.

Of the top 100 best-selling discs on amazon.com:

90 are DVDs
7 are Blu-ray Discs
3 are HD DVDs

After the format war has been for almost a year (using the WB announcement as a date) and all Blu-ray can manage is 7 to 3 here? Against HD DVD???!!!

Things are much worse than I thought!

Caleb, you had it right when you mentioned the "Mission Accomplished" banner...

So now WB is "dropping BR" because of Amazon's sales charts.

The world now makes sense.

I don't know where the OP's source got their numbers but if you visit Amazon right now it tells a way different story...

First of all, I'm counting more than just 7...

http://www.eproductwars.com/index.cfm

Secondly, go to Amazon.com's HD DVD page and look at their top HD DVD seller - Planet Earth at $39.99.

http://www.amazon.com/Planet-Earth-C...7673505&sr=1-1

It's listed as rank #177 in the Movies & TV section.

So how the hell are ANY HD DVDs in the top 100?

Let's get the facts straight

I believe Mr. Hawthorne's words describe perfectly what was just revealed in this most amusing thread.

As a follow-up:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers...1?ie=UTF8&pg=1

If you go by that list as of 11:28 pm there are 12 Blu-rays and 0 HD DVDs.

Nice try.

I count 11 right now and no HD DVD (no surprisingly). The fact is Amazon ranking system is a bit of closely guarded secret, and it's also quite dynamic. It's hard to extract solid sales info from any one snapshot.

This holiday season will open the floodgates. You'll see Blu-ray hitting 20% marketshare by January sporadically, and by January 2010, at least 40%.

Although I don't agree with this thread he does make a good point. Even the most avid blu-ray fanboy has to be a little concerned with some of the comment's that have came out recently. Personally, I want blu-ray to stick around since there is no other viable alternative right now. Download's in hd are nice but there are some movie's I would like to actually purchase in hd. If another format come's out to replace blu-ray I don't care if it goes belly up, but right now it's all we got.
