Default LG BH200 gone forever...?

For anyone who is interested to know, Bestbuy.com has officially dropped the BH200 from their site and have apparently changed its status in their system to 'discontinued'.

Amazon only has a few available from third-party vendors for almost $500.

E-bay has about 2 new ones listed for $450ish.

This player rapidly starting to disappear from the shelves. The last dual format player is going the way of the dodo.

I'm hurt...

They are going anywhere from $240 - $399 in Best Buy stores depending on how the Managers want to dump them. Excellet upconverter (QEDA) and can be made DVD and BD region free in about a minute (and play PAL DVDs).

It was always the pricing that killed these. You could buy a HD-DVD player and a Blu-ray player cheaper than the Dual format players.......so unless space was really an issue for you there was just no need for one.

Yeah...thats what kinda killed it for many back during the format war. Why pay $800 for an LG 200 when you could get an A3 for $199 and a PS3 for $399 (or a Sony/Panasonic whatever for $399). Unless you were cramped for HT space or didn't want to hassle with an extra remote it didn't make much sense. For me, being BD and DVD Region free is a big plus since I can import titles without worry if they will work or not. Just finished watching Night of the Living Dead something we might not get for a while.

Yup, funny how only after the format war did its price become more competitive. It should have only cost slightly more than an A20/A30 (since at the time it could decode but not bistream HD DVD HR audio) and BD-P1400.

Sad to watch these great players vanish.

This unit plays PAL, but doesn't convert the content to NTSC. That make make lots of PAL special features or PAL R2 SD DVDs useless without a display that accepts PAL.

The player was discontinued months ago (March 2008 being the final date of production)...LG has *finally* managed to clear out the old stock, or is getting close to it.

Actually there were several people who got April units when BB cleared them out last month (not that it matters). The machine is very similar to the LG 300.

It no biggie. My BB still has plenty of LG 200s and multiple open-boxed Samsung 5000's left. For some reason they feel a remote-less 5000 for $549 is a good price.
