Of course one needs to like these films to be a MUST HAVE. These are what I would call my MUST OWN films and I would have no problem recommending them to others.

    1. Die Hard - The big reason I went to Blu as quick as I did after Warner switched. My friend had a Blu player and owned this film. He showed it to me. Now I know it's not the greatest transfer in the world but it is leaps and bounds better then the DVD transfer and this is a film I was very familiar with. So I was very impressed with how it looked. Plus it's the GREATEST action film ever made!!!!!!!

    2. Blade Runner - I you have any intrest in this film at all then you have to own this. Probably the greatest release for a single film ever. Five different versions of the film a 2 1/2 hour documentary, tons of other extras, and an OUTSTANDING audio and video transfer. What's not to love?????

    3. Black Hawk Down - Great audio and Video. This is a film that gets better every time I watch it. It has to be the fastest 2 hr and 20 min film ever.

    4. 300 - A film that was made for HDM. Sure the film is intentionally Grainy but it looks amazing.

    5. Close Encounters of theThird Kind- Yet another older film that looks amazing. Three different versions of the film and plenty of extras and classy packaging. One of Spielberg's best.

    6. First Blood - My second fav. action film. Sure the film is grey and dark and it is not something you will show your system off with but it's the best it has ever looked. And the film itself warrents a purchase.

    7. CARS - Not the greast pixar film but this is the film to show off you HDM system!!!! The Look and Sound of perfect is CARS.

    8. The Spider-man trilogy - One great film (Spider-man 2), one decent film (Spider-man), and one above average film (Spider-man 3). A must have for fans of the series. Spidey 2 and 3 look outstanding.

    9. Casino Royale - The Best Bond film looks and sounds great!

    10. The Descent / the Shining - I Love Horror films it's my fav. genre. Unfortunatly there are not a lot of great horror title on Blu yet. The Shining is a classic and one of my favs. The transfer is great and the best the film has ever looked. The Descent looks AMAZING. I love the look of this film with it's use of realistic lighting. Not the greatest horror film but a very good one.

Just missed the list. Pirates of the Caribbean 1 and 2. If I loved these films more they would have made the list EASY! Both are reference quality films.
But if you like these films at all you have to buy them.

There's plenty of releases that look great, but the movies are poor/average. These can't make my top 10.

    In no order:

Mad Max 2, The Road Warrior - the jewel of my BR collection. Great movie, looks awesome.

Pan's Labyrinth - one of the best all round blu releases. Top movie that looks beautiful.

    Apocolypto - see above

Kung Fu Hustle - my favourite kung fu movie gets the hd release it deserves.

    Blade Runer - obviously.

Casino Royale - go Bond \o/

Sunshine - visually stunning and tense sci-fi goodness

Goodfellas - in my top 10. It sits beside Blade runner and is waiting for Jaws and Indy to join the club. Good transfer too.

300 - i'm a little torn on this. I didn't enjoy it at the cinema, but love watching it at home on Blu-ray. 300 shows off a decent av setup well.

Big Fish - lovely film and picture.

    1) Lost Season 3

    2) Bram Stoker's Dracula (The atmosphere from the audio is other worldly)

    3) 2001: A Space Odyssey

    4) The Shining

    5) Ratatouille

    6) Pan's Labyrinth

    7) Blade Runner

    8) Unforgiven

    9) The Host

    10) Kung Fu Hustle

I can actually add quite a few more, but my absolute favorites in HD are these as of right now. I'd like to toss in Black Hawk down as my 11. And Hellboy as my 12. Maybe even Clockwork Orange... It's hard just narrowing it down to 10. Casino Royal is another that's hovering just outside of the "10".

I am interested on having the link to all Must Own blu rays from all reviewers of this website especially for all the Criterion Collection but also interested in all films. There is no Must Own drop down menu in the review search options. Thanks for all your help guys!

Yeah, there is no sort option for reviewer recommendations, because it is an area where reviewers use text, not a multiple choice drop down bar. The closest method is to sort overall for highest star score. A 5.0 or 4.5 overall score is either highly recommended or must own, and any disc earning points THAT high is freaking amazing.
    Tumbleweeds.

I don't have the staggering collection many here have (I have about 80, and have only watched half so far), and have only had my blu-ray player for less than a year...but two Blu-Rays stand out as VERY impressive....

Alien - A movie that old shouldn't look that sharp!

    &

The Crow - The DVD was a low resolution pan & scan with muddy blacks. The Blu-Ray is like watching a totally new movie.

if you can find it Fantasia/Fantasia 2000 is a must own for classic Disney fans (found it at my local FYE, expensive $45, but was the one classic movie I missed on release because I didn't have Blu-Ray at the time).
