Judging by the reaction of the stock market to the news that Toshiba will be dumping HD-DVD, I would have thought the board members would actually just call the vote in today!

I think most of them are still looking for their HD DVD receipts to get a refund on their players before making an announcement.

I think the "she" is Jodi Sally. She has always been the person to issue statements about Toshiba, and I think the anonymity this time is because she doesn't know anything about anything, really, and is just covering herself. The reason I think "she" is her is because it's odd the way they specifically say "she" and I can't recall other stories that quoted sources as stating they were male or female, in order to protect them.

But would this make sense for news that originated out of Japan?

It's 11:15pm in Japan right now. I think it can wait until morning.

I like how she says that HD DVD is the only format approved by the DVD Forum. Cause you know... That helped.

At this point I wouldn't be at all surprised if they trotted Jodi Sally out again to say HD DVD isn't giving up.

I'm sure she will once again relay her same diatribe about how superior HD DVD is despite clearly inferior specifications all the way around and how the BDA played dirty pool while conveniently overlooking the Paramount payoff.

It's all so completely pathetic.

At this point it really doesnt matter what Toshiba do. The public perception is that HD-DVD is dead and you will not be able to reverse that.

Just look at all the news sources reporting that Toshiba are going to drop HD-DVD and listing all the other companies that have dropped HD-DVD in the last month.

Its over no matter what Toshiba choose to do at this point.

All they have left to decide is do they officially drop the format and allow Universal and Paramount out of their contracts or do they let HD-DVD die the death of a thousand cuts but hold back Blu-ray just a little longer by keeping hold of Universal and Paramount.
