Default Sonic Solutions dropping HD-DVD support from disk authoring software

Quote:
Inside sources have alerted Blu-ray.com that Sonic Solutions will soon announce that they are dropping HD DVD support on their Scenarist line of professional disc authoring tools. While they will continue to support existing HD DVD customers, focus will now be on generating new business for their Blu-ray encoding solution. No word on whether or not they will also drop HD DVD support on their popular Roxio line of consumer burning software at this time.

As soon as the official press release is distributed, we'll update this post with the official statement from the company regarding their change in policy.

This could be good news, but it's also listed as a rumor right now. Still, it's just a matter of time before the rest of the industry see's blu.

Everybody knows that Sonic Solutions Sucks! They make the crappiest software ever! I thought they went out of business in 1997. I bet Sony paid them out! Nobody uses their crap software!!11!!!

There, thought I'd compile some of the counterpoints into one convenient lump.

Avid, a major industry software house, uses Sonic for one of their prime DVD authoring products does not even mention HD DVD. Blu-ray is mentioned in many places on their site.

See here.

You obviously don't know what the hell you are talking about. Sonic Scenarist is professional authoring software used by all the big studios and which I'll wager a lot of money that you have never even laid eyes on. If the rumor is true, it is *major* news and will be a railroad spike through the heart of HD DVD.
