This is ultimately a good thing for HDM.

Hopefully they can keep their quality up (i.e. U-Control and other next gen features).

I'm waiting for the BD hardware and software to catch up to where HD DVD is now: BD Live/profile 2.0 w/software to match. Hopefully they'll re-release some of the movies that don't have 1.1/2.0 features for those of us who want them.

Variety is getting a lot of mileage out of that statement.

I am hoping if this is verified that they use BD encodes instead of pimping us with hd dvd low bit rate encodes and dd 5.1.

While I'm skeptical that the higher bit rate will make any visible difference, I'm all for that, too (hell, it can't hurt anything). The audio improvement will be welcome, too.

Agree. Until there's a quote from a named Universal executive, a press release, or a physical BD on the shelves, these articles are doing nothing other than recycling the same rumors over and over.

Cheers, Carl.

I hope it is verified that Universal announced it is sticking with HD DVD for now, and these crap threads should be deleted soon.

I'm as red as anyone else on here. Well maybe not Deadmeat.

But I don't know how anyone could doubt that Universal and Paramount will at least be neutral very, very soon.

At this point HD DVD has been reduced to a man with the wrong mission on the wrong planet.
