Default News Flash: More SA BR players than HD DVD

Almost as many BR SA players as there are "dedicated HD DVD Players." BR still selling twice as many movies as HD DVD. Must mean HD DVD fanboys are twice as dedicated.

**UPDATE**This writer made a mistake, which got perpetuated. They ignored the fact that there were PS3's sold between 10/30 and 11/24. The number of SA BR players cannot be determined until we have an accurate number for PS3 sales through 11/24.

Quote:
According to Video Business, actual numbers of standalone Blu-ray Disc units may be around 700,000, as there were 2 million PlayStation 3 consoles sold through October. Accurate data for standalone player sales is harder to gather for Blu-ray Disc than for HD DVD, however, as there are a greater number of Blu-ray Disc hardware manufacturers. Should the provided data be accurate, it would mean that 74 percent of all Blu-ray Disc players in North America are in the form of the PlayStation 3.

I read over it three times (the post) and I still am not even sure if he means to be pro BD or pro HD by his comments... Maybe a truly neutral thread?

Not a chance… that VB article was an uninformed guess…

A) If Blu-ray sold more standalones that HD DVD, there would be a press release, party, parade, etc… they don’t keep quiet about such things.

B) Many retailers reported selling HD DVD players many times over all standalone Blu-ray players combined on black Friday.

If anything, HD DVD has expanded their standalone lead in the past few weeks..

Check the numbers, they fucked up in their reporting. There were 2 million PS3's through October, and 2.7 million Blu-ray players including the PS3 through November 24th. There's an expected 400-500k PS3's in November, a vast majority of which sold by November 24th. That puts the Blu-ray stand alones around 300k (400k PS3's in November through the 24th).

Spicy - don't you ever take time to watch a Blu-ray movie, instead of scouring the net for any item claiming its domination?

How could he possibly have time to watch a movie, he is obsessed with this war and really has no time left.

I've always estimated the number of BD devices used as dedicated players to be similar to HD DVD. The numbers don't make sense any other way. If they mean actual SAs (S300, 94HD), BD and the PS3 are a complete disaster.
