Default Who believes Star Trek will have an affect on the Format War?

I've known some diehard trekkies in my life. Who thinks that fanbase, or even the less hardcore Star Trek fans, will have an influence on this format war? Who thinks they won't? Why or Why not?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trekkie

I think it was pretty arrogant of Fox to say Paramount has no influence on this format war, but could they be right? If so, how?

Thanks for sharing your perspective.

It really won't have much effect, the price doesn't help either.

Don't forget about the crappy packaging.

The exclusivity to combo disc makes it impossible to judge. Normally people would buy the DVD if they have a DVD player and the combo disc if they have an HD DVD player. With this, even if you don't have an HD DVD you have to buy the combo disc to get the content.

At that price it isn't going to sell well.

It might end up as a collector's item, but we still need to consider the people who do buy it using it as a DVD. Therefore, we couldn't really say that what it sells is too defining.

Off topic, but since I posted this in the sales forum Star Trek thread, I might as well post it here also.

Star Wars is not Star Trek, but this very funny video came to mind (Triumph the Insult Comic Dog).

Somebody also referenced this video this earlier this year.

Neighter StarWars or StarTrek there are VERY old franchises. I think that only a VERY new franchise can do the blow: See that the first Austin Powers movie a half-flop on theathers but a huge succes for video. (See also Pokemon which saves LITERALY Nintendo64).

Ask Oldsmobile how well sci-fi sells product. During the 90's with sales lagging in the Buick & Oldsmobile devisions both marketing departments were handed the task of marketing these 2 brands to a new generation. Buick chose to spend their money to become the official car of the PGA. Olds. the official car of the X-files. How many Oldsmobiles were made this year?

I want STAR TREK 1 but not at that price. Do you know how many pieces of memorabilia you can get for the price of a HD DVD player and the box set?
