Question Funai vs Venturer & Co. Q1,2008

Quote:
When at IFA we made sure to check out Funai's exhibition, to get a first glimpse of their upcoming Blu-ray player. We spent some time talking to a Funai representative, unfortunately he couldn't give us any details about the specs for the player as it's only a prototype and still in development. The final product will have a new design when it is introduced in the market. When pressed a bit about the release date he said sometime in Q1 2008. He couldn't give us a specific price, but said that Funai is known for their low prices and the Blu-ray player would be no exception. Funai expects to be able to reveal more information about the player in November-December.

Moving on from the Warner exclusivity rumours, Walmart, A2's lets look ahead at Q1:

After consistently reading posts by BD.com insiders refering to interesting "things happening behind the scenes in China" (e.g. at the time of the Warner going BD exclusive rumour thread.) China's HD Dvd based CH-DVD standard players for China aren't HD Dvd players but can be modded to be HD DVD. That being said, What do people predict will be taking place in 1st Q, 2008?

Will Funai introduce a cheap BD player for Q1? What do you think will be the impact of it?

Or, will it be rendered moot with the release of more Chinese players like the Venturer player? http://news.digitaltrends.com/talkback184.html

Or,...does Toshiba have all things hardware under its solo control?

Does BD have sufficient Software to entice people in Q1 regardless of how Q4 goes? & what about HD dvd?
...Looking for fresh perspectives & interesting discussions.

1.1 player will move fast at $300
2.0 player will move very fast at 350

While I doubt a 2.0 player it would be nice to see.

Because blu-ray players cost more this will probably have more effect on for blu-ray. I don't think Venturer will undercut toshiba and a recent (fire) sale prices.

But this may be proving ground for each format. Many CEs are still out of the HD biz and a player selling hundred thousands could help kill the other with higher disk sales and player sales which effect other CEs and studios.

The public doesn't know the difference between 1.1 and 2.0. So I doubt that fact would change how fast it moves.

Meaning no Funai player or... just that that is the price to beat?
Assuming the 99$ price is a sale price. Let's say 169$ entry to compete.

169 is for a Sony player, off brand, 99 bucks.

How many of you would spend 170 bucks on something called PoohNanny or funaniy...

I'd venture to say a number of people on this site would pay $170 for PoohNanny. It might not be top quality or have the cleanest interface but it gets the job done!

LMAO!!!

I do wonder though. What if the Funai player comes for a low price in early or mid Q1. BD certainly would have enough titles released that would attract more consumers... If they couple that with the 5 free movies deal, it really would make it hard for HD DVD to outsell on hardware &/or software, not single-handedly, of course! ...Or is this unthinkable??
