Default HD-XA1 Wins Sound & Vision Product of the Year Award!

News has been pretty good for the HD-DVD camp over the last 24 hours. First Universal's big announcement and now this.. This should help sell some HD-DVD players...

It definitely can't hurt I wish they would also emphasize its great upscaling capabilities since many people would probably buy it just for that - and then start buying HD DVDs as well.

So, just to clarify, this big, giant retro looking paper weight, buggy machine, with a crappy remote actually beat out the PS3 and all of the other Blu-ray standalone players in 2006 for this very reputable award??? This day is getting weirder by the moment

I hope eventually they review the Xbox 360 add-on. In this months issue they reviewed three different Blu Ray players including the PS3. The only review S&V did on the 360 was about 10 months ago and the system has been through several updates so I think another review of the Xbox 360 with the add-on is in order. Also they should review the HD downloading service as well. Right now I am downloading Decent in HD off the Xbox marketplace to watch tonight. I already seen it but with it being a BLU RAY exclusive and all I just thought it would be kinda bittersweet to watch it on my 360.

I agree - I was sure they'd be talking about the XA2.

I don't see why they didn't just share the award with the A1 given they are almost identicle.

Don't get me wrong....I'm very happy that it received the recognition it did. I'm just still trying to understand what it all means compared to everything else.

Let me add, especially how tasty the XA2 looks...but maybe that's considered 2007.

LMAO, apparently you haven't seen the Sony or Panasonic Blu-Ray players <:-|

An interesting quote from the article

Quote:
Building on its early lead in the market and proving the strength of the HD DVD format, Toshiba has expanded its HD DVD line and has increased shipment volume to meet the growing market demand.

Waiting patiently for someone to accuse "Clan Toshiba" of paying off Sound and Vision, or Sound and Vision having Microsoft as an advertiser and that skewed the award.

You'll have to wait until later tonight, because all the blue-ray backers are working overtime to pay off their investment.
