Default Who will buy the $99 Player Tomorrow? New users or mostly present HD DVD users?

I will like to ask an question to all the so call experts on the forum on what a few co-workers discussed today.

Who will buy the $99 Player Tomorrow? New users or mostly present HD DVD users?

Example: 50,000 HD-DVD / $99 for sale.

20,000 will be sold to people who have a HD-DVD already. Good for player sales but not disc sale, since you will have two players at home, but you will not buy 2 copies of the same movies or spend same amount of money as before. Every time I see good sales on HD-DVD, half buy a second player for home. There are many users on AVS etc with 2 or more players. Will not help disc sales

20,000 For gifts for family members bought bye users with experience A HD- DVD already. Will buy few discs or have no HD TV at home yet (parents etc will bye few discs or borrow from family members).

10,000 New users who will buy disc, but at $22-33 a title, will only buy new movies or start slow?

Many people on the net/forums say there are going to get a second player and a gift! People who are into HD will know about the sale and take advantage of the sale. So if present users buy the player for a second player how is this helping the media sales?

I work in the IT/Computer area. So some people have both or know about it, but do not want to go into the format yet. 70% percent at work said they will wait till next year.

This is a good question, I see HD DVD owners all over internet forums claiming they will buy anywhere from 1-3 for themselves. *shrug*

The mainstream is not going to make the jump yet.. there are still hurdles for the mainstream to overcome.

I think it will be mixed, but I have seen four commercials for Wal-mart's HD DVD secret sale in the last 24hrs, and I don't watch much TV. The Holidays should be very interesting.

I was watching Phenomenon yesterday and the Office tonight, if anyone cares.

Doesn't the mainstream think an upconverting dvd player is hi definition? None of my coworkers have a clue.

But on topic, I'm sure the majority will goto existing owners as a second player. Myself, I replaced the 360 add on.
