Default Blu-ray insider: WB committed to Blu - Wal-Mart/CC 50,000 A2's - AnyDVD 2/10 on BD+

The number of A2/Ws that Toshiba will be selling at their close-out price is about 50,000 with a further 20,000 A3s made available on Black Friday.

Signs are that Slysoft have got a build of AnyDVD HD that breaks BD+, I have seen an early buggy version that will do it 2/10 times, and their hack is pretty unreliable. It isn't something that I understand fully so I can't really go into how they did it.

WB are as committed to Blu-ray as they have ever been and this will be showcased by the titles they release this holiday season.

Links? I can buy your second paragraph, but I'd like to see some proof of the other 2 statements.

It's on the Blu-ray insider thread - second to last page, top of the page.

Yeah, one from the last few days, not from months ago.

50,000 HD-A2W's would be less than the first shipments each Wal-mart in the United States is getting. Nice try, but no cigar.

Even if your source is correct and not the WalMart spokeperson... that's a lot of players for just one store chain. At least 10% of the present install base. My money is that they sell out. The question then would become what's Toshiba's pricing strategy for the A3.

The Disney sure looks to be committed as well with their advert for the Blu

Sounds like scramble mode damage control.

I personally as far as information released from either side will wait for press releases.

Insider information can be misinformation to offset things that are truely happening. It's like the old spy game from the cold war.

No thanks. I'll wait for the official press releases. Although it doesn't surprise me that someone would post this information to add even more FUD than is already going around.

Sorry - it should read "Toshiba 50,000 A2's" not Wal-Mart.

I know, Disney are the main reason why HD DVD didn't win one week of sales so far this year, they're out doing a mall tour with Panasonic plasmas, promotiing the crap out of Blu-ray and people still come up with these hair-brained suggestions that Disney is going neutral any day now.
