Default PS3 all but confirmed to be 1.1

While, its not 100% proof, its about as close as we can get to confirmation that the PS3 will indeed be 1.1 compliant!

http://www.videobusiness.com/article/CA6488844.html

The last line of the article:

"PS3 is expected to soon offer a firmware upgrade to boost its Blu-ray interactivity functionality, noted Sony’s Eklund."

Yes, but a little confirmation never hurt ;-). Im sure HD-DVD camp will find a way to say it was misquoted or something like that:

Something along the lines of "Well they didnt EXACTLY say 1.1 now did they.."

I don't think saying that is a misquoted or rude, it's true. It doesn't state 1.1 lol

I always anticipated this, but the real problem are the standalones. Seems more and more like BD is going to be a PS3 only format. Hopefully the SA's get a path to update.

Don't all BD players produced after the cutoff date have to be 1.1 compliant? I mean Sony is going to keep producing PS3's for a few years, including launching new sku's so this is guaranteed....

I believe they need to be announced by 10/31 to avoid being 1.1 compliant. Since there is no sunset clause, effectively CE's can continue to manufacture and sell 1.0 players without a limit. And this brings about several concerns for hardware manufacturers, and the studios.

Sony's supposed to announce the 160gb HD DVR PS3 in Japan, so I think we should be all set...

I do agree with you here, the standalones need to get 1.1 support and FAST.

I hope so too. Come 11/1 we might see some news from BDA about this. I am curious how it will all pan out.

Not all of the camp, but a few I'm sure, just like a few of you Blu-people seem to knock down everyone/everything HD DVD.
