Default The War is Over!!

You need proof? Here's the link.

Nothing can stop HD DVD now!

Sorry, I couldn't resist. I'm sure someone actually believes this will have some sort of impact.

What is funny is that it makes sense.

You buy a laptop and it tells you that it can play HD.

Remember, Toshiba laptops all have HD, moving forward that means there are going to be a lot of people who get the laptop and have no idea HD even exists.

Sony included a document with the PS3 that told me I can get five free movies. So if I didn't know the PS3 could play movies, I certianly did after reading the document.

It's called marketing.

I know it is a good marketing move. The post was meant as a joke to poke fun at the way people overreact to any news. Apparently, it missed its mark on some people.

... and then you pop it in, watch it on your 14" laptop monitor, and say "meh -- I don't see the difference."

I think you will see a difference, but not enough to pay $28+ for HD DVD day and date releases when you can buy the DVD for $12-15 on average...

This is why I feel the laptop drives will have little to no impact on the format war, especially with regards to bringing in new sales. And let's be honest, most desktop and laptop computers come with a stack of CD's and DVD's and most people end up either throwing it away or leaving it in the box which gets buried somewhere in storage...

If I had a dollar for every disc that's come with a piece of hardware or software that's gone straight into the filing cabinet I'd probably be able to buy the Spider-man Trilogy in 1080p high definition on October 30th, 2007; only on Blu-ray Disc.

Now, if all of those laptops had an HDMI port, that could be interesting....
