Default Tracking Uni/WB/PDW's "more than 125 titles for Q4" pledge

This was one of the highlights of the HD DVD Promotion Group CEDIA press release:

Quote:
Universal, Paramount Studios and Warner Bros announced a broad slate of more than 125 titles for 4th quarter, featuring blockbuster new releases and catalog titles that delivered box office returns of more than $3 billion.
I said it looked like a lot (an average of 10 titles per week, for the whole three months), especially considering that all three studios have announced titles into November.

So far I see no more than 65 titles announced for the fourth quarter. I was generous and counted all re-issues (eleven so far), as well as the two BBC titles (they are distributed by Warner), and counted all movies inside a box set, as well as the two Blade Runner releases.

So they still have to announce 70 titles more to meet their announcement.

Excellent thread mate, I'm currently highly doubting the HD DVD PRGs ability to meet this bold claim. I'll be ecstatic if they do though.

They are referring to US releases and re-issues will be counted. When they are announced it will be done in probably blocks of 10 titles the way Universal did when they ramped up production around mid year. I note you have seperated out the HP series so you should do the same with the Jack Ryan collection

so that would leave 67 titles to still be announced

you really see them being able to do this? to me it's just another statement from the HD DVD PG that will need revising before the end of the year much like their standalone player projections

I can see them managing it. I mean Warner Bros have stated they'll be releasing more Blu Ray titles in Q4 than they did Q1,2 and 3 combined. If Universal and Paramount step up the releases to the same level, we could be pleasantly surprised. I'm just not getting my hopes up. I do think there are A LOT of titles yet to be announced that are due to hit this year though.

that's easy for warner to do though, they have 20+ titles already produced and ready for replication as they use the same video encode (catch up titles)

how's that 1.1 spec (due to be standard by OCTOBER 2007) working out for you?

what about the endless fox/disney releases that have been cancelled/pushed back

and of course the demise of HD-DVD by Q3 2007

yeah...the BDA are really good at keeping their promises...

HD-DVD haven't broken many promises yet...

glass houses?

Anyone who saw the unofficial titles on the WB site last week know there are a reem of titles waiting to be announced. Uni really havent announced Nov/Dec so I would expect them to put out probably upwards of 25-30 titles. Paramount again now they are only concentrating on one format could probably stick out 15-20 titles before the end of the year and then WB so I dont see it being an issue. If by the 3rd week of October they havent been announced then can rightly have a go at the figures.
