Default Does your home theater support lossless audio?

Just trying to get a sense of who can actually take advantage of things like Dolby TrueHD. You'd either need a receiver with HDMI, or a player with 5.1 analog out.

That's my next big purchase. That's why lossless is important to me (even though I don't have it.) When I first got my HDTV and Blu-ray player I didn't know enough to know what all the audio specs meant. The first two titles I picked up were MI3 and Superman Returns. I was a bit annoyed to hear later that never had lossless sound (Superman had it on Warners HD DVD but not Blu-ray - back when they were definately one-sided) and Paramount had DD+ on HD DVD and DD on Blu-ray (which I was later told where the same.)

Either way, I was a bit annoyed to hear I already had an inferior product that would need to be upgraded should they re-release it with lossless sound. I've been a lot more careful since. It was like the DVD releases that used to come out with DD only, and then have DTS ES on the special edition (LOTR sound familiar?) These studios love to get us movie lovers to keep buying the same movie.

I have a very small list of movies that I will repurchase. Learned my lession with VHS to DVD to Blu-ray to whatevers coming next. I'm going to get things once, and I want the best presentation possible the first time.

Any lossless surround owners want to chime and provide their feelings on any perceivable differences you heard?

I don't. Have a mismatch with a PS3 and a pre-HDMI receiver. It has 5.1 analog inputs for PCM but PS3 only had toslink or HDMI out.

Want a nice new receiver, maybe with my xmas bonus. Glad I'm waiting a bit though because they keep getting better with more and more HDMI inputs.

I don't have any HDMI-capable components other than the source player and the (DVI) display. My lossless audio is via 5.1 analog from the source player which decodes 5.1 TrueHD (Blu-Ray), 2.0 trueHD (HD DVD), and of course uncompressed PCM. It's not ideal but I'm looking towards the futures; I expect my disks with DTS HD MA or evern HD DVD 5.1 TrueHD will still be there when I get a player(s) which properly handles all lossless audio formats.

I only have DTS and DD on my older Sony reciever.

I quite honestly haven't heard a "lossless" soundtrack on any home theater set up because no one in my area has a set up like that.

It would be nice if places like BB or CC would take the time to actually SHOW the difference.

Nope...
But in addition to this question I wonder how many people have a speakers that can actually show the difference of the new formats over the old.

Yes. I just upgraded from the 360 Add-on to the HD-XA2 and I'm very happy with the 5.1 analog out, SD upconversion, & Video through HDMI.
