The HD-A20 will handle HD DVD, DVD and CD content and outputs at 720p, 1080i and 1080p resolutions.

No specific date was given for the launch of the player, but the company expects it to be available this spring.

At the press conference, Toshiba announced that there have been an estimated 60,000 HD DVD units sold so far to consumers, and that the HD-A2 and HD-AX2 are "currently selling very well already," says Sally.

Is it not suppose to be the HD-XA2 not the HD-AX2?

The A2 will probably be just Toshiba's entry level model to the consumer, hopefully it will drop to a lower cost. A three model line would will diversify for the HD DVD platform. Of course we will see if this is a going to a reality @ CES.

Wouldn't be surprised if the A2 drops to $299.

I am still buying The HD-XA2 so this announcment has little effect on me personally. It is great news tho as it just dropped the price for people looking for the cheapest 1080p HD-DVD player by 300 bucks. That is a legitimate price drop. If they want the souped up 1080p unit then they can getthe HD-XA2, if they are looking for something more economical they can buy the new player and if they are looking for a 720p entry unit they can get the A2.

Toshiba simply has a much better selection on the hardware side and I am not talking about videogame options. The PS3 and XBox Add-On are all good and dandy but the formats need dedicated players that span all different options and prices and HD-DVD simply has a better offering in this dept.

OC..

Might have to ebay my A2 or sell it to a coworker and buy an A20 prior to is release
