Default Interesting Warner Archive on Facebook quote about BluRay

Warner posted on their Facebook Archive page the following as an answer to a post concerning Blu-Ray catalogue product:

Quote:
Poster Question: Though it's not an Archive title, any chance for a remastered Blu Ray of THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME (1939)? The old DVD is very watchable, but being an early release, there's room for improvement. A new audio commentary and digibook would be well deserved for this monumental classic.

Warner Archive Collection Probably at some point down the road, this would be a very viable title to revisit for BD. With overall BD sales way up, and player penetration into more households. we hope that this will mean greater support for classic films on the format, and HUNCHBACK is an excellent candidate for the upgrade.

This is actually the second time someone from Warner mentioned Catalog sales in a positive manner:

But it was packaged media’s comeback-kid performance in the tail end of the year that has studio executives looking forward to even better times ahead.

“We started out the year with tough year-over-year comps to box office, but have made steady gains throughout 2011, with an especially strong third quarter,” said Ron Sanders, president of Warner Home Video.

“We seem to be getting some momentum in the sellthrough space, with catalog being a particular bright spot. Black Friday was very strong this year and also bodes well for a strong finish to 2011 and good momentum into the first quarter of 2012."

“Consumers are stepping up their purchases of Blu-ray, and we see this continuing into 2012,” said Warner’s Sanders.

Didn't they release less films on Blu-ray this year over last?

But again....this is a studio head trying to garner sales for a format with sales that are lagging. It's all expected.

Box office is lagging and they have less positive verbiage for theatrical. We also hear things like "sobering" from some of the studio execs late last year. What has changed this year with all the positive talk lately?

We also have declines in Theatrical. Studio heads have been on the news calling the theatrical numbers for 2011 overall disappointing. If the numbers for Optical were that disappointing wouldn't they also call them out as well? I would think so.

I don't know. They are salesmen trying to sell a product.

All I know is that Bruce over at HDF said that OD sales look like a record decline this year and had a chart to prove it. Shrug.

So any comment from a studio head that's positive about Blu-ray is automatically discounted outright by you as PR when sales are poor? Even when what he says is in direct conflict with your pessimism?

From the same guys who takes a quote years ago that's less positive and repeats it over and over again?

That's a terrific pessimistic hypocritical double standard even from you.

The quote was talking about Blu-ray which is still growing despite your fairly desperate attempts to ignore it and any other positive comments like these from the studio heads. Just like the pessimists discounted the positive comments on Blu-ray from the studio presidents in the end of the year article.

Right - winning the battle - BD sales are up . . . losing the war - DVD sales are bad and causing yearly negative growth for the OD HVM.

Of course - they released 3 of the big summer movies in September along with the Star Wars box set on BD

It was? According to HMM and Nielsen - it sucked:
