Default Echo Bridge to release more "Disney" catalog in one day over Disney in ALL of 2010.

Since Disney sold off many films from it's Mirimax/Dimension line, other studios (Lionsgate, Echo Bridge seem happy to release won't Disney won't on a format they have been supporting for 5 years. Let's take a look at some numbers. So in one day (or possibly in a 8 day span, the dates are not right to what's on Amazon. We can go with a month to help some of the people who will no doubt try to find a way to wiggle out of the title), Echo Bridge will release more titles then what Disney did in all of 2010. Scary, eh?

Disney 2010:
1. 10 Things I Hate About You
2. Armageddon
3. * Beauty and the Beast
4. * Fantasia / Fantasia 2000
5. * James and the Giant Peach
6. Tombstone
7. * Toy Story
8. *Toy Story 2
Honorable Mention: Gangs of New York (Re-release) - After the crapfest that was the 2008 DNR/EE Fest.
TOTAL = 8 Catalog Films. 9 if we count the Double-Pack

Echo Bridge on May 15th (Though, likely the 10th or 17th since the 15th is a Sunday. I'd say the 10th with the other 7 releases)
1. Supercop/Twin Dragons
2. Halloween: Curse of Michael Meyers/H20
3. My Boss's Daughter/Duplex
4. From Dusk Till Dawn/From Dusk Till Dawn 2
5. The Yard/The Lookout
6. Children Of The Corn V: Fields Of Terror/Children Of The Corn 666: Isacc's Return
7. Pokemon Heroes/Pokemon: Destiny Detox
8. Hellraiser: Bloodline/Hellraiser V: Inferno
TOTAL = 8 Catalog Releases / 16 Unique Films

May 10th:
1. Children of the Corn 3
2. Supercop (in a Double-pack)
3. Hellraiser 4 (in a Double-pack)
4. Halloween 6: Curse of Michael Meyers (in a Double-pack)
5. Texas Rangers
6. Dracula 2000
7. Equilibrium
TOTAL = 7 Total Catalog Releases. 4 Unique (not in a double-pack)

Disney doesn't release catalog titles very often.

That whole "Opening our vault for a limited time...." comment on such releases should have been a clue for you.

So you didn't start collecting movies until Blu-ray? Guess you forgot about DVD...

The "Vault" only pertains to their Animated catalog and select Family Films. Nice try.

Which is the bulk of their desirable catalog titles... But let's not let reality intrude on your diatribe.

"Desirable catalog".

Interesting choice of words.

So you agree that 8 catalog releases from a major studio like Disney who also had Dimension and Mirimax films, many of which won a ton of Awards and prestige, was a good thing for Blu-ray?

Spin, spin, spin...

So now you resort to the "complicated Question" fallacy... Nice sidestep.

Just keep spinning... someday you'll turn these turds of "wisdom" of yours into gold...

...not.

Disney doesn't release catalog titles very often...period.

Maybe someone should start a thread in a few weeks titled "Disneys Beauty and the Beast BD outsells all Echo Bridge BD titles combined"

How is this bad news?

Firstlly, more catalogue titles is a good thing. Secondly, most of those titles are Miramax/indies rather than Disney or Touchstone. Thirdly, I can't imagine may of those film will be big sellers so that should be seen as a good thing since we've so heard that lesser-known titles will never be released oon blu-ray as sales are pathetic.

Disney licensed a load of films to Anchor Bay in the early years of DVD. Some of those titles were never re-released by the house of mouse. This is not new behaviour, they've always treated live-action catalogue poorly.

Again your entire concept here is lacking historical context.

Disney overall is releasing more Blu-ray than ever before and is well above its pace for last year.

Overall Disney has less DVD releases than other studios in the past years and overall historically.

Overall Blu-ray releases are well up year to year and this time of year is the historical low period in releases on an annual basis so basically talking about year to date trends and trying to project them to the end of the year is to be in ignorance of the historical tends. Basically you really can't project things out anyway for the rest of the year for Blu-ray as we are basically only about 12% of the year in the historical patterns of releases.

Trend charts from the DVD release report as evidence of the seasonal trends and historical patterns of Disney DVD and Blu-ray releases.
