A further related link: http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/News...x?NewsId=20568

And quote from above (note the Wal-Mart relationship, and their market share numbers)

"The company is a favourite supplier for Wal-Mart, winning a Billion Dollar Supplier Prize in 2006, and distribution through this retail giant could mean that BD player success would mirror that of DVD products for Funai, which has an estimated 52% of the DVD player/recorder market in the US. Although the company has not ruled out an HD DVD player, the current focus appears to be on Blu-ray."

CDRInfo repeatedly steals content from other sites and plagiarizes news stories. As a writer myself, I have to advise everyone to avoid visiting CDRInfo and to avoid posting any links to their site due to their repeated content theft.

Edit: removed BurnWorld URL, who also stole the content.

You can get information about the different brand names that Funai sells its products under at this link:

http://www.funai-corp.com/

These are all budget brands and will presumably be offered by a wide variety of retailers.

There are supposed to be a few Chinese HD-DVD players coming by the end of 2007, this is one if them. The Venturer should be priced under $200 MSRP.

Out of curiousity, has anyone even TRIED to contact Venturer about that vapour-ware player?

Well, I dropped them an e-mail just now asking for any details on that player, and when we might see it come to market. I'm hoping they respond with some new news. I'll let everyone know if they write back, don't worry (Yes, even if it's positive news for HD DVD)

We will see chinese players from both camps sooner or later. The HD player will be priced under 200$. I can pretty much guarantee we wont see a blu ray player streeting for 200 bucks this year.
