Default DTV converter box - beware

Iím sad to report that I still have analog TVs in the house. Theyíre still in great shape, and I canít see getting rid of them. Anyway, I recently got my $40.00 converter coupons from the government. I wasnít paying attention when I purchased my first converter box, which I got from Wal-Mart. Theirs donít have ďanalog pass-throughĒ capability which is critical if you have a satellite receiver, and you want to watch local digital over-the-air channels easily. I wound up having to get a splitter, and now Iím able to see programming from both my over-the-air antenna, and satellite. My satellite picture is not a clear as it could be though, and I might have to get a booster.

I corrected that problem on the second box. I purchased it through K-Mart, and theirs DOES HAVE analog pass-through. This could have been covered before in the forum, but I havenít seen it yet. I posted because I thought it might help somebody else.

Thanks for the post! I have satellite also and I got my coupons a month ago. I'll get mine from K-Mart if I can find one. Most of them have closed-down in my area.

You can also get a converter box from Radioshack. Radioshack sells the Zenith DTT901 which is one of the best converter boxes available. This converter box already come with analog pass through so you don't have to split any of the wires out.
