Default Question about TV seasons

How come FTA networks like FOX or CBS have seasons longer seasons than Cable like HBO and Showtime? Why's that?

It's all about $$$. The networks have to make their advertisers happy so they will pop out 24 or 25 weeks worth of new programs each year. The more new content they have available the more they can charge for their 30 sec advertising sopt. Also advertisers are not going to pay top dollar for a 30 spot that airs in the middle of a rerun. Networks like HBO and Showtime get their $$$ from their subscribers rather than advertisers so they can put out whatever they feel gives their subscribers their moneys worth.
