Default MGM to Launch HD Channel

I haven't seen anyone post THIS yet, so here it goes . . .

Quote:
This is the sort of news us HD junkies just can’t get enough of, sometime “by the end of the year” MGM plans to launch a stand-alone high definition movie channel. Similar to HDNet Movies and Universal HD, the channel will air un-cut, uncensored and hopefully aspect-correct films from MGM’s 4,100 title library. According to TV Week new window 1,200 of those 4,100 titles have already been transferred to high definition.

MGM’s, Executive Vice President, Worldwide Digital Media (Douglas Lee) states that "We've been developing the concept for the past year. We've talked to a lot of cable, satellite and telco companies, and people have been receptive." Lee didn’t give specifics on which providers would offer the channel but DirecTV and Comcast should be considered front-runners.

Some of the potential titles to air on MGM HD might include films such as ‘The Usual Suspects’, ‘Hannibal’, The Rocky franchise, ‘RoboCop’, ‘Mulholland Falls’, ‘Poltergeist' and of course the majority of the James Bond franchise. MGM also controls the ‘United Artists’ library, a majority of the ‘Orion Pictures’ film and television library and the pre-1996 Samuel Goldwyn library. Good news indeed for high definition enthusiasts.

Movies are so rarely great art that if we cannot appreciate great trash
we have very little reason to be interested in them.

Well this is very cool news, I only hope Dish Network gets it.
I know Direct TV had promised 100 new channels this year, so this may be one of their exclusives.

Universal will also be releasing another HD channel, called "Chiller" channel. A 24/7 horror channel!.
Right now a SD version launched on the 1st of this month, but HD expected by the end of the year.
Sadly at this time is a Direct TV exclusive and I guess the anwser to Dish's "Monster" channel, a great channel btw.

I would love this channel also though.

I want a 24/7 horror HD channel!

I hope my cable provider gets the new MGM channel and maybe more.

I love the Monster HD channel. I watch all the time, when I'm not watching a disc, of course.

Does Time Warner cable provide either of those? I know they don't have Monsters HD, but I hope they get either CHiller or any horror channel that'd be great!
