Default Dish Network Question

I'm thinking about making the switch from Time Warner to Dish Network, but I want to keep Road Runner. Is that possible?

I'm not interested in paying the upfront costs of $200 for a HD-DVR.

Dish just lifted their activation fee on February 1, so now you don't have to pay anything to sign up for service.

Really? My girlfriend is really scared about the horror stories she's heard about satellite going out in bad weather. How is everyone's experience with that?

I've had Dish for over 18 months now and have been through numerous Nor' Easters. I would say that for the majority of the time it doesn't lose signal and when it does it doesn't stay out for more than 20 min worse case.

I had DTV and moved over to Dish, the HD reciever when using HDMI had some real bad lag when changing channels and it was just annoying, this and they tried to remove several HD channels and make me pay for them when I had the HD package already, Dish for the win and the receiver and HDMI setup is much more stable than DTV was.

As for the signal, unless its a really bad storm I have not had the thing go down yet.

Thanks for the responses. I've been looking more and more into Direct TV, so I have a decision to make between the 2 in the next month.

there are satellite forums such as dbstalk and satelliteguys, find out from users around your area if dtv or dish is better.

ive had dtv for a long time. MUCH better channel lineup than dish. another dtv sat is going up and adding even more. if you check those forums, dish is in process of CATCHING up to dtv's HD lineup.

find out whats better for you, which packages. its all about content. for me dtv rules for now. well, till fios hits my area.
