Default Help needed. HD channels in widescreen, other channels shrunk down...

I finally got an HDTV for my room the other week. It's a Samsung TX-S2782H and it's great. It's not a widescreen HDTV however; it's the traditional square shape.

Yesterday, I got my standard cable box traded in for an HD box from Time Warner Cable and the HD channels are wonderful.
However, when I watch other channels, it keeps the widescreen aspect ratio (with bars on the top and bottom), but it also puts bars on the sides, making the picture square. So, the picture doesn't fit my TV screen. Meaning there's a black border all the way around the image, reducing the picture by about a third of the screen's size. I want the picture to fill my whole screen...like it normally would. I can't change the picture size of the TV with my remote when using the component input, so I'm stuck with this smaller picture.

Is there any way I can make the standard channels fill the screen while keeping the HD channels in widescreen? Or is this just a very annoying sacrifice I have to make for the wonderful HD picture quality?

I know with my scientific atlanta HD box from Rogers (Canada) using the # button on the remote scretches, zooms, normal, and 16:9

see if you have that feature.

Ah, yeah, it seems that it's (supposed) to be the same with Time Warner too; the # key. However, it doesn't work for me. According to the lady at tech support, my HD box needs to be set-up again to allow for this feature and the tech has to come back out tomorrow. Ridiculous. Oh, well. Thanks for the heads-up.

Sounds like all you should need to do is going into your setup and set your screen ratio to 4:3

I'm very happy with it. It's a wonderful price for what it offers. The HD picture quality is great, 2 composite inputs, 2 HDMI inputs, AV input, S-Video...I love it.

I'm interested in how much you can adjust the picture. Does it offer different picture modes--Movie, standard, etc. and does it have brightness, contrast, hue, etc. that you can manually set on each picture option if you want to?

Yes, it has picture and sound modes, and you can adjust the colors and hues, etc. manually with a slide bar.
