Default DVD's and hardware reliability

I've learned playing DVD's is hard on the laser and other components. For this reason I've only watched one DVD on my 3 month old xbox 360. Is there anything to worry about or am I too cautious?

It's a matter of personal preference really. On reference or near-reference top dollar players I can see this as an issue since they rely heavily on the precision of the components including the laser. My dvd player for instance requires maintenance or recommends laser replacement after some time with heavy use. That is only if I want it to perform 100% say 5 years from now.

For mainstream consumer electronics, I don't see this as an issue. So I would be leaning towards over cautious. Use it up.

Great question by the way. This is something most people won't think of.
