Default 360 Add on upconvert?

I'm using the component cables, at 1080i, because my tv doesnt support vga nor 1080p. I am wondering if the hd-dvd add on will upconvert SD-dvd's to 1080i? or if they will continue to be 480p?
thanks!

They will continue to be 480p due to stupid copyright requirements. The only way to up-convert is over VGA, sorry.

When people initially got the add-on, some commented that SD-DVD's were upscaling over component - I take it this is false then?

This has not been the case for me. Hitting the info button on my tv remote clearly reads 720x480.

Yes. I guess upscaling over VGA has been there since the Spring update. The HD-DVD add-on doesn't do anything new for SD-DVDs.

I have not seen people generally saying that (some few mistaken people have perhaps said so), most have been consistently saying that SD-DVD only upscales over VGA on the add-on since the beginning. This is due to well known legal restrictions.

Well those comments were made in the early days of the 360 HD-DVD launch, so they were probably mistaken.

anything can be upconverted over component, IF the material you are trying to play is not copyright protected lol.

Ah I was thinking that SD DVDs could be upconverted using VGA as stated for various other places i've seen. I'm using a 720p projector that can max 1080i but everytime I hook my xbox 360 w/ the VGA cable it won't display 1080i where as with component it does display 1080i.
