Default DTS 5.1 audio via new HD DVD update

When I downloaded the update, the DTS option seems to be quieter and had less fidelity than the DD option. I have tried both HDMI and optical cables and both have been the same. Do I have to turn on dynamic range to hear the difference?

I popped in LOTR and switched it to DTS and noticed a fairly good difference between DTS and DD. Seemed crisper in sound. And I didn't mess with any configurations on my reciever.

As for the Dynamic Range, all I have heard is you want to leave it off. I think turning it on gives you a "night mode" like what we were experiencing prior to this update.
