Default Dolby TrueHD with Xbox 360 Add-on

I just read that the Xbox 360 Elite will decode Dolby TrueHD and downscale it to a Dolby Digital track at 640kbps, up from the 440kbps with the optical. Also, what is with this black hd dvd add-on for the 360? It's going for $250 on ebay? How come it is not sold in stores?

If you have the add-on... do google "Xbox 360 skins" and you should find a few places that will sell you a black cover for your add-on.

As far as your 1st question\statement it is correct that the 360 will decode the TrueHD audio Track, but it then encodes ti back to DD for output over optical....

yep both awsers are correct there was a black 360 add on that was pictured (given to select employees I beleive it was said) and there are the skins available for it to make it black. Most likely what you are seeing on Ebay is a skinned Add On which would NOT be worth it (to me at least) the 250 they are selling it for.

I don't know... if you didn't already have an add-on... figure $199 for the add-on plus another ~$30 for the skin... and it's already installed (those things can be a pain in the ass to put on correctly)... ~$250 doesn't sound that bad (if you don't have the add-on in the first place).

Yeah I can see it for some people just to get the looks down especially when the get they elite, for me though at this point, I think I am using the add on as a "stepping stone" until I can get a viable dual format player......So for me putting any more money into it would probably be pointless, but I can see the benifits for some.....

Same here , i invested in it cheaply. I got the premium xbox 360 and Add on. Ive considered buying the xbox 360 black case online, but then their is no case for the add on so its eh, i wont do it. Even though it would match my tv but i saw the xbox 360 elite, wasnt too appealing too me. I was expecting a jet black, but regardless its the best investment if your now getting an xbox 360.

Can anyone confirm that Dolby TrueHD tracks are downscaled to DD at 640kbps? I really would like to know cuz my receiver doesn't say and the Xbox Elite doesn't say either, unlike the PS3 which says format and bitrate.
