Default The future of XBOX 360 ......

Does anyone know if Microsoft has any plans to add HDMI to XBOX 360 gaming console? I feel to stay competitive that it should be one of there priorities like ASAP. Over he next two years as people upgrade thier entertainment/ home theaters people will pass over the XBOX 360 for something thathas HDMI in it. I am an XBOX 360 supporte but Iif I were a person installing/ seeling home theters I would recommend a gaming console that is HDMI compliant. For mostly two reason's 1.) for the fact that it is the most adavenced technology so far, & 2.) CEC Consumer has one.

To add HDMI they need to replace or augment the analog video output with an HDMI transmitter. That doesn't sound too trivial but it depends on the current graphics subsystem and how extensible it is.

I'd love to see an Xbox 360 HD with Integrated HD DVD and of course HDMI.

Microsoft said earlier in the year that they weren't adding HDMI because it wouldn't improve Video Game quality, that was at the same time as saying they wouldn't have 1080p compatibility. Now that they have the higher resolution and a reason for HDMI, I expect to see one soon, but haven't heard anything officially.

If 1080p for games will work fine over component, what would be the hurry for Microsoft to try and work out an HDMI solution?

Customer Demand or 'perceived' demand due to PS3.

Either way you won't be able to add-on HDMI to your existing console unless they actually have digital out already figured in their AV connector which I doubt.

Actually, I would not doubt it, their "adapter" is a bit more than a connector, it actually interfaces with the system. So I suspect MS probably could do a lot with it if they chose.

Gamestop.com actually had a 3rd party Xbox 360 HDMI connector posted as "coming soon" for a while before they took it down. So something tells me the hardware is fully capable, they just haven't upgraded the software or made the cables to do it yet.

Before the console was launched I read about how the video was outputed from the 360. The digital to analog conversion is done inside the console. So an HDMI output would have to be done with a new SKU. The current hardware just can't do it.

It interfaces in that it has a switch to flip from SD to HD but HDMI is not very easy to just stick on unless it was designed from the start. It's possible it has DVI support though.
