Default Xbox HD DVD - SOLD OUT AGAIN

I just checked a few websites and they all have the Xbox HD-DVD drive as backordered now.

I checked Best Buy, Gamestop, Amazon, and Walmart.

The only place I could find that did have them in stock was Circuit City.

Can't wait for them to release the number sold. I bet its about on par with the number of launch PS3s sold.

7 million people look at the market and see a $200 entry into HD-DVD. I bet the buy-in is simply huge.

How can you just make up numbers like that? Nowhere near 7 million people own the 360. Only 6 million have even shipped to retailers thus far, and that's a worldwide number including markets the HD-DVD add-on is not even for sale.

I'm just waiting for Microsoft to announce sales numbers. I'll likely have to wait until after Christmas but 200k numbers wouldn't surprise me.

State your source. Not everyone has to buy them (i.e. there isn't 7 million HD-Drives available) but to those people who already have a system they see a $200 entry option. All numbers on nexgenwars.com are world wide numbers.

I'm torn about the Xbox. I want to get one in the next 4-5 months but I'm almost positive that Microsoft will deliver an Xbox with integrated HD DVD. Perhaps I'll just hold out and when I do grab one Halo 3 will be shipping and a few other standout games.

Wait for the price drop if you're not in a rush, and I thought someone posted that they were doing integrated HD next year. Personally I don't mind the external drive, as I have an HD drive for my laptop/desktop/where-ever else in the future. Just need HD-DVD player software to try and see if I can watch it yet -.-;

I cant see Microsoft releasing a 360 with an internal HD-DVD drive. They already split the user base by the premium and core systems. Since not every 360 has a hard drive, the developers cant make games to utilize the hard drive. If they make a HD DVD Xbox, not only will it piss off 6 million+ people, but it will divide the user base even more. How can developers make games if there are so many different configurations of Xbox 360's out there?

I was fortunate enough to grab one of the last drives at my local EB. All the rest were reserved. I think this drive will sell a decent amount of units. For 200 bucks, why not.

I wish we'd get this arguement buried somewhere near Area 51. Microsoft did not "split" it's userbase with the two sku's. There is currently all of one game that currently requires the hard drive, and it's the same game that required the PS2 to have a hard drive. Other than that, every SINGLE game in the Xbox 360 library and 99.9% of them to come will not require the hard drive. All this talk of utilizing the hard drive comes from out of thin air, and it's certainly not stopping developers from developing games for the system, including former PS3 exclusives like Assassin's Creed.

That said, yes, there is little chance Microsoft wants to include the HD-DVD drive in the system considering they've maintained from the start that they will not require their games to be on HD-DVD. So why force the consumer to buy something they might not want or use?

I would be more concerned with the source of your source as they admit they don't have one and those are only estimates! They already know how many PS3's have been sold when nothing has been announced? That's your source?

My source is Microsoft. As of October 27th Microsoft said they have SHIPPED 6 million consoles worlwide to RETAILERS (not consumers). http://www.cepro.com/news/editorial/16209.html

Unless they have shipped an extra 1 million in the past two weeks and 100% of the 360's are sold and none remain on the shelves, there aren't 7 million Xbox 360 owners out there.

The real 360 ownership in homes can be found readily on the Internet. We have NPD sales data to North American consumers through October (http://journal.pcvsconsole.com/?thread=11067):
November 2005
326,000
December 2005
281,441
January 2006
249,000
February 2006
161,000
March 2006
192,000
April 2006
295,381
May 2006
220,877
June 2006
277,000
July 2006
206,000
August 2006
204,000
September 2006
259,458
October 2006
218,000

=TOTAL in homes for NA
=2,888,000
